Delicious food

Beautiful setting

Vibrant community

We are located in Albuquerque’s picturesque north valley, on an expansive twelve-acre property. Since 2012 we have served delicious American cuisine locally sourced from area farmers, ranchers and food artisans. Delectable and creative dishes prepared by chef Jens Smith in our intimate dining room and award-winning patio.

What We Value

Local Food
Serving locally grown food is our mission at Farm & Table. We source up to 80% of our menu from local farmers, ranchers, dairies and food artisans.

People
We hold the utmost respect for all of the hands that  grow, raise and produce our food; those who prepare each ingredient on your plate; those who serve and wash each dish; and for each person we serve.

Land and Water
Land and water is not a commodity. Caring for these precious resources is part  of our mission. We work with farmers who grow food without the use of dangerous herbicides and pesticides and we employ sustainable farming practices on our property with the intent to protect the soil for future generations.

Hospitality
We value each guest who walks through our door and strive to offer a wonderful experience for all with delicious food, a beautiful setting, great service.

Farm

The beautiful property that Farm & Table is located on came about through a deep respect for the land. Cherie’s father David Montoya purchased it many years ago to save it from being urbanized as a 40-house development. David’s goal was to preserve the land, re-establish the ditch rights, and restore its agricultural integrity.  This selfless plan to honor the land, culture and heritage of the Rio Grande Valley is the reason that the Farm & Table thrives today. We continue to farm the property and raise happy cows in the back field.  All who visit can enjoy the gorgeous unobstructed views and the beauty of the open space.

Earth Care • People Care • Fair Share

Currently, our farm is in the process of transitioning into a permaculture farm! We are working with renowned permaculture designer Dan Halsey on an ecological approach to regenerative farming. Recently, our friends at Silverleaf Farms  helped us plant a nitrogen-fixing cover crop called Sunn Hemp. We have also sheet mulched north of our greenhouse. The soil will rest and mend until spring when we will begin planting a variety of fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, and perennial crops. We will also add more spaces for relaxing and taking in the views. All are welcome to enjoy our land and to help along the way. Let us know if you are interested in volunteering to learn more about the process.

Our Community

Farm & Table is more than a restaurant and farm; it is a mission-driven project comprised of many collaborations, partnerships and relationships. Community and sustainability are core to our philosophy of focusing on “people before profit”.

Here are some of our current community projects:

  • Free community events in collaboration with our sister store, La Parada, which include a Dia de los Muertos Festival and a Cinco de Mayo Folkart Festival.
  • Theater on the Farm every June featuring Tricklock Theater Company and Duke City Repertory. 100% of the ticket sales go back to the theater groups.
  • Wellness on the Farm in the spring, summer and fall, which includes meditation on Wednesday evenings and yoga on Saturday mornings.
  • We give to charitable organizations monthly.
  • We have a “pay it forward” project where we surprise guests with a free meal to inspire a spirit of generosity that may ripple into the community.
  • Farm & Table and Edible Magazine have created a New Mexico Chapter of Chefs Collaborative which supports culinary professionals in New Mexico with education and resources in sustainable food practices..

Our Background

Cherie Montoya, owner of Farm & Table, was born and raised in the North Valley of Albuquerque. Cherie developed an early appreciation for good food grown from the land and lovingly prepared for the dinner table at her grandparents’ home nearby.

From her grandparents’ small garden and orchard, trees yielded fresh fruit that was processed into jams, jellies, and fruit leathers. Processing was also done with tomatoes, cherries, grapes, squash, chile – everything grown on the small property. Throughout the year, these treasures were taken from the root cellar and freezer to be transformed into delicious creations. Yearly family gatherings to make empanadas and tamales were special times in grandma’s kitchen, and the tradition continues with Cherie and her family.

Traditions endure. Cherie’s father continued to hold respect and honor for the land and water that his grandfather instilled in him when he was just a boy. David Montoya took these skills his grandfather taught him and began to farm small plots of family land in the North Valley in the 1970’s. David still farms several acres in the area… including the alfalfa farm behind the restaurant.

This deep love and respect for land, water, food, and community led to Cherie’s creation of Farm & Table. Cherie, along with her two children, bring the labor of love that is Farm & Table to you. We hope you will enjoy the experience as much as we love providing it to you.

We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.
